FoodE: From Food Loss to Food Entrepreneurship -

Youth Initiatives for Sustainable Development

In our EU project "FoodE: From Food Loss to Food Entrepreneurship - Youth Initiatives for Sustainable Development" we focus on the issue of food waste on the production side and would like to encourage young people to look for innovative solutions to prevent food loss during cultivation and processing.

There are already many ideas and good practices to reduce food waste on the consumer side, but even before food becomes a consumer good, waste is generated, for example during harvesting, storage and transportation of food, which according to studies accounts for well over 15% of measured food waste in Germany as well as globally.

The idea behind FoodE is to raise awareness about the importance of food waste in the context of climate change and environmental protection in general among young people who are already interested in agriculture or the food industry, as well as those who have not yet had any contact with it. Innovative solutions for improvements in agriculture and food processing are to be developed within the framework of workshops, whereby young people also experience the joy of creative entrepreneurship as well as product development and problem-solving skills.

Together with our European partners DRAMBLYS (Spain), Agrotech Innovations (Cyprus), Innovation Hive (Greece), The Polish Farm Advisory and Training Centre (Poland) and RITE (Cyprus) we develop information and teaching materials on these topics and try to inspire young people to be an active part of the change in society and to develop creative solutions themselves that help to reduce food waste.
